Evan and Abigail are wildly cute. And ridiculously fun to photograph. These two have that young, playful, completely-in-love kind of energy that makes my job feel like the easiest thing in the world. Their summer engagement session at Emigrant Lake in Ashland, Oregon turned out to be extra magical thanks to a little Mother Nature drama beforehand.

A wild storm rolled through just before their engagement session started, and while we weren’t sure what the evening was going to look like, it ended up giving us the most incredible moody skies.

Honestly, I’ll take dramatic storm clouds over a perfectly clear sky any day.

Abigail looked absolutely beautiful in her lovely white dress, which popped against the darker skies and natural landscape. The combination of her dress, the lake, the mountains, and that post-storm evening light was just gorgeous.

But the best part was these two.

They snuggled, giggled, danced in the road, and generally forgot there was a camera pointed at them. And that’s exactly what I want from an engagement session. I don’t want you standing around wondering how to pose. I want you to hang out with your person, laugh, cuddle, dance, and actually enjoy yourselves.

And Evan and Abigail absolutely nailed it.

There was so much genuine affection between them, and I loved capturing all those little in-between moments, the way they looked at each other, the giggles, the cuddles, and the spontaneous dancing. Those are the images that make a session feel alive.

Emigrant Lake is such a dreamy Southern Oregon location for engagement photos, too. The lake, mountain views, trees, and open landscapes give us so much variety, and when you add in that gorgeous evening light, it’s pretty hard to beat.

Then throw in a storm that clears just in time for sunset?

Magic.
