Wowza! Emma and Johnny recently got engaged, and I was SO thrilled when they wanted to celebrate with a couples session that was completely their own.

And let me tell you… this session was RAD.

Instead of going the traditional engagement-photo route, these two brought along their Harley-Davidson Dyna and classic Chevy truck, and I was absolutely here for it.  Give me a couple with some personality, a few badass vehicles, mountain views, and stormy skies rolling in, and I’m a happy photographer.

The mountain backdrop was gorgeous, especially with those dramatic clouds moving in. The stormy skies added so much mood and depth to the images and made the whole session feel a little more cinematic.

And then there are Emma and Johnny.

These two are so damn cute together. They’re playful, affectionate, and completely comfortable being themselves, which made photographing them ridiculously fun. There was plenty of laughing, cuddling, teasing, and just generally having a good time together.

Their style also made this session feel so uniquely them.

Johnny is covered in tattoos, Emma has this effortlessly cool and beautiful style, and honestly… tattoos and Harleys just go together. Their edgy aesthetic fit perfectly with the motorcycles, old truck, mountain landscape, and moody skies. These weren’t cookie-cutter engagement photos, and I wouldn’t have wanted them any other way.

I love when couples bring pieces of their real lives into their sessions. Your engagement photos don’t have to involve champagne, a field of flowers, or a perfectly manicured location. If motorcycles are your thing, bring the motorcycle. If you’re obsessed with your old truck, let’s photograph it. If you have tattoos, leather jackets, cowboy boots, hiking gear, dogs, or anything else that feels like you, let’s make it part of the story.

Because the best engagement photos aren’t necessarily the most traditional ones. They’re the ones that make you look at the photos years from now and think, “Yep. That’s us.”

And Emma and Johnny’s session was definitely them.
