I’ve been photographing this amazing family for about 15 years now.

FIFTEEN.

Years.

That honestly seems a little crazy. 😂

But it’s also one of my very favorite parts of being a photographer—getting to watch families grow and change over the years and being invited back to document all those different seasons of life.

A Beautiful Autumn Family Session

Jami is such a sweetheart, and she always puts so much thought into everyone’s outfits. She has a knack for choosing colors and pieces that coordinate beautifully without making everyone look overly matchy.

And I love that we always include their dog!

Because obviously, the family portrait isn’t complete without the floofy white family member. 🐶

This time, we photographed their family right on their own property, which made the session feel especially personal.

There’s something really wonderful about photographing a family somewhere that actually means something to them. Their own surroundings become part of their story, rather than simply choosing a pretty location for the sake of photographs.

We spent the evening taking advantage of the beautiful autumn scenery and that gorgeous golden light right before sunset.

And of course, their fluffy pup got plenty of camera time too.

The Beauty of Photographing a Family Over Time

One of the greatest gifts photography has given me is the opportunity to watch families grow.

Fifteen years ago, I was photographing this family at a completely different stage of their lives.

And now, here we are again.

Different seasons. Different memories. Different little details.

But the same family connection.

That’s what makes photographs so valuable to me. A single session captures one tiny piece of time, but when you photograph a family again and again over the years, you start creating an entire visual history.

And someday, they’ll be able to look back at these photographs and remember exactly what this season of their lives felt like.
