A fun and playful engagement session at Emigrant Lake, Ashland

There is something pretty special about photographing someone more than once throughout their life.

When Micah reached out about having engagement photos taken with his fiancé, Grayce, I was thrilled. Several years ago, I photographed his senior portraits, and that session remains one of my most memorable senior sessions to date.

So when he came back years later with his sweetheart, I couldn’t wait to get these two in front of my camera.

A Dreamy Sunset at Emigrant Lake

We decided on Emigrant Lake in Ashland, Oregon for their engagement session, and it ended up being such a dreamy evening.

The water level at the lake is crazy low these days, but even with the low water, there are still so many gorgeous backdrops to work with. The surrounding mountains, rocky shoreline, and open landscape gave us plenty of variety, and then the sunset showed up and did its thing.

That golden evening light is one of my favorite things about photographing at Emigrant Lake.

But honestly, the scenery was only part of what made this session so good.

These Two Are Adorable

Grayce is quite a catch, and Micah definitely knows it. Ha!

She is SO sweet and genuinely lovely to be around. When you’re talking to Grayce, she makes you feel like she’s hanging on every word and can’t wait to hear what you’re going to say next. That kind of presence is such a rad quality.

And then there’s the way these two interact.

They look at each other, play together, laugh together, and just seem completely at ease in each other’s company. Their connection was so natural, and it made my job incredibly easy.

I love photographing couples who aren’t afraid to be playful and affectionate. Give me the couples who will laugh at each other, get a little silly, snuggle close, and forget I’m even there.

That’s where the good stuff happens.

Watching Micah and Grayce together was genuinely heartwarming, and I couldn’t help but feel excited for everything that’s ahead of them.

There’s something really cool about knowing where someone started and then getting to photograph another chapter of their story years later. I photographed Micah as a high school senior, and now here he is, completely smitten with his future wife.

I absolutely love that.

Congratulations to Grayce + Micah on your engagement! I am beyond thrilled for you both and cannot wait to see where this life takes you as you explore it together.
