Sweet Mt. Ashland Family Photography Session in the Snow

There is something downright magical about snow for portrait photography.

Southern Oregon has no shortage of beautiful scenic locations, but add a fresh blanket of snow and snow-covered trees, and everything feels a little more dreamy. Mountain overlooks, winding roads, and valley views take on an entirely different look when winter rolls in.

This snowy Mt. Ashland family session was especially fun for me because I have had the joy of photographing the Claborn family for years. There is something so special about getting to watch a family grow in front of my camera and continue documenting their memories through different seasons of life.

And, as always, their outfits were on point. They chose colors and textures that looked absolutely beautiful against the snowy landscape without competing with it. When you’re planning a winter family session, outfit choices can make such a big difference, and these guys nailed it.

We spent the session exploring the snowy mountain landscape, taking in the valley views, and enjoying all the beauty Mt. Ashland had to offer. There’s something about being surrounded by snow-covered trees with those big mountain views in the distance that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in.

I love that family sessions don’t have to feel stiff or overly posed. We can explore, laugh, snuggle, wander around, and simply enjoy being together. Those little in-between moments are often the ones that end up being my favorites.

And getting to do all of that with a family I’ve photographed for years? Even better.
