What an epic proposal this was! These are the kind of sessions that make me so giddy.
Anthony put so much thought and effort into making this day special for his love, Emily. When he first reached out to me, we started planning all the sneaky details together so we could pull off the perfect surprise. These two had recently moved to Oregon, and Anthony wanted a truly magical backdrop when he asked Emily to marry him. Crater Lake did not disappoint!
Crater Lake National Park is such an incredible place for a proposal. The scenery is dramatic in every direction, and there are so many beautiful spots to explore around the lake. Depending on the time of year and the location, you can find a combination of breathtaking views, beautiful light, and quieter areas that make the experience feel a little more intimate.
For Anthony and Emily’s proposal, we took advantage of the gorgeous scenery and made the whole experience feel like a couples photography session.
A Couples Session With a Surprise Ending
We started with a couples session so Emily could be completely photo-ready without suspecting a thing. She got to choose some fun outfits, knowing she was going to be photographed, while I secretly knew we were working toward something much bigger.
We wandered around some of the beautiful scenery near the lake, stopping along the way for photos and enjoying the evening together. This is one of my favorite ways to photograph a surprise proposal because it gives everyone a chance to relax and settle into the session before the big moment.
As the sun started to set, Anthony found the perfect opportunity. He dropped to one knee and asked Emily if she’d spend forever with him. So sweet!
Of course, I got teary-eyed because I LOVE love, and Emily squealed with excitement as she realized what was happening. And then there was that gorgeous ring—which she couldn’t wait to get on her finger! These are the moments I love most about being a photographer. Yes, I get to photograph beautiful people in beautiful places, but getting to witness something this meaningful is the real magic.
