There is something so special about being trusted with a moment that someone has been dreaming about for so long. When Elijah reached out wanting to plan a complete surprise proposal for Sarah at Emigrant Lake in Ashland, Oregon, I was so excited to help make it happen.

We worked through all the little details ahead of time to make sure everything felt natural and the surprise stayed completely intact.

On the day of the proposal, Elijah and Sarah arrived at Emigrant Lake and parked right next to me without realizing I was there waiting. I had my window down, my long lens ready, and was tucked away in my truck so I could capture the moment from a distance without interrupting anything.

They walked down toward the water, and then Elijah made his move.

The reaction was absolutely adorable.

Sarah was so surprised, and you could feel the excitement and happiness between them as they celebrated this huge moment together. She looked stunning in her beautiful white dress with the open back detail. It was the perfect outfit for such a memorable day.

After the proposal, we spent time capturing newly engaged portraits around Emigrant Lake. We wandered along the water, explored the rock climbing wall area, and documented all those sweet just-engaged moments while the excitement was still fresh.

I especially loved the little details too, including some fun ring photos with Sarah’s new ring nestled among the plants. Those tiny details help tell the whole story of the day.

There is nothing quite like photographing the moment when two people realize they’re about to start a brand-new chapter together. The surprise, the laughter, the happy tears, and the overwhelming joy. It’s such an honor to witness.
