Sometimes you don’t need a big occasion or a milestone to celebrate your love. Sometimes you just want some beautiful photos together, and honestly, I’m ALL for that!

Jill and Michael reached out wanting to finally get some professional couples photos. Their only professional photos together were from their wedding a few years ago, and they were ready to update the collection. I was so excited to spend an evening with these two!

And then Jill hopped out of the car wearing this gorgeous mustard-colored skirt, and I was immediately GIDDY. You guys, the color was absolute perfection for Emigrant Lake during Autumn. I am such a sucker for earthy tones, especially when they complement the landscape so beautifully. The warm mustard paired with the natural colors of the lake and surrounding scenery was just dreamy.

We also lucked out with some seriously gorgeous moody skies. It had rained earlier in the day, leaving behind that soft, dramatic light and cloudy atmosphere that I absolutely love photographing in. Not every session needs a bright blue sky and sunshine! Sometimes those overcast, post-rain evenings create the most beautiful atmosphere for portraits.

We spent the evening wandering around Emigrant Lake and exploring the nearby trails, finding little pockets of pretty scenery along the way. And yes, our boots definitely collected their fair share of mud and grass! But SO worth it.

Jill and Michael were such a joy to photograph. These two are just precious together, and it was so sweet watching them interact. They danced, snuggled, smooched, wandered around, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. I love giving couples a little direction while leaving plenty of room for those natural moments to happen. The goal isn’t to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera the entire time. It’s to spend time together, have a little fun, and capture the connection that makes your relationship yours.

And honestly, that’s what couples sessions are all about!

Emigrant Lake is such a beautiful location for autumn couples photography near Ashland and Medford, Oregon.

The open landscape, lake views, trails, and seasonal colors give us so much variety. Add a little cloud cover and those earthy autumn outfits, and you’ve got a pretty perfect recipe for a dreamy evening session.

One thing I always tell couples is that you don’t need to wait until your next anniversary, engagement, or big life event to have photos taken. Whether you’ve been together for two years or twenty, documenting this season of your relationship is always worth it. Your life together is happening right now, and I think that’s reason enough to celebrate it!
