Kelly reached out to me shortly after receiving the heartbreaking news that her sweet Husky, Kada, had been diagnosed with cancer.
She wanted photographs of the two of them together because she wasn’t sure how much time they had left.
My eyes immediately filled with tears as I listened to Kelly’s voicemail explaining the situation. Our love for dogs is mutual, and I knew how incredibly important these photographs would be.
We got her session scheduled quickly, and I couldn’t wait to meet the fluffy friend who had been such an important part of Kelly’s life.
And when I finally met Kada, I completely understood.
Kada is nine years old and has been part of Kelly’s family since she was just a puppy. She’s an only child and, as all beloved dogs should be, completely spoiled. 😉
The love between these two was so incredibly sweet to witness.
They snuggled.
They bonded.
They simply enjoyed being together.
And that’s really what this session was about.
Not trying to create perfect photographs or make Kada do anything she didn’t want to do. Just giving Kelly and Kada the opportunity to spend some quiet time together and preserve the relationship they’ve shared for so many years.
Of course, on the day of the session, Kada was feeling pretty good and had an abundance of sniffing to do.
Because she’s a dog.
There were important smells to investigate, after all. 😂
We let her be herself, followed her lead, and captured all those little moments that made their relationship so special.
I’m so grateful I got to be a small part of this precious time in Kelly and Kada’s lives.
Photographs can’t stop time, and they can’t make a difficult diagnosis disappear. But they can preserve a face, a goofy expression, the way your dog looks at you, the feeling of holding them close, and the love that existed between you.
Those things become incredibly precious.
Dogs have a way of becoming so much more than pets. They become family. They are there for the good days, the bad days, the ordinary days, and all the little moments in between.
They make life better.
1000%.
And it’s hard to imagine a life without them.
Kelly, I’m so grateful you trusted me to capture this time with Kada. I hope these photographs always remind you of the incredible bond you shared and of the beautiful life you’ve given each other. ❤️
