This was such a rad session! Matthew and Pamella had a private courthouse ceremony and then wanted to celebrate with some newlywed portraits around downtown Ashland. And I am SO glad they did, because these photos were an absolute blast to create.

I love the idea of taking your wedding attire out into the real world after a courthouse ceremony. You don’t need a traditional wedding venue to have gorgeous wedding portraits, and downtown Ashland is such a fun backdrop for this kind of session.

There are so many great little pockets around Ashland with interesting architecture, colorful storefronts, brick, greenery, and beautiful natural light. We were able to wander around and find a ton of variety without going far, which made the whole session feel more like a fun newlywed date than a traditional portrait session.

And apparently, when you walk around downtown Ashland dressed in full wedding attire, people assume you’re celebrities.

Matthew and Pamella got so many honks, waves, and congratulations from people passing by. I absolutely loved it. There’s something pretty fun about wandering through town in your wedding clothes while strangers celebrate right along with you.

And these two? STUNNING.

Pamella’s dress had the most incredible texture, which photographed beautifully and added so much visual interest to the images. And Matthew’s blue suit was absolutely on point. The two of them looked so freaking good together.

They were also so much fun to photograph. They wandered, laughed, cuddled, explored different backdrops, and just enjoyed being newlyweds. I love sessions like this because there isn’t the same pressure or timeline as a traditional wedding day. We can slow down, play around, and really focus on creating beautiful portraits of the two of you.

And honestly, I could have photographed these two all day.

This session was such a good reminder that your wedding photos don’t have to look like everyone else’s. A courthouse ceremony, a favorite downtown, your wedding clothes, and a photographer who wants to wander around with you can be the perfect recipe for something really special.
